HefftorLinux is a spinoff of ArcoLinux which is a popular Arch based Linux distribution. I previously checked out their XFCE version which is their number 1 most downloaded version and KDE is their second. Installation uses the Calamares installer and includes additional steps in the installer to make some modifications to the package selection before writing to disk.
Once the installation is complete you’re greeted with a rather attractive KDE desktop. You’ll get a panel at the top and a dock at the bottom which is using latte-dock. They’ve opted to use the full screen application dashboard as the default launcher as opposed to the standard application launcher you’ll find on most KDE desktops. The version of KDE is 5.20.4 which means you’ll have access to all of the latest features and improvements for the Plasma desktop. If you would like to see some of my favourite new features of KDE 5.20 click here.
Aside from the additional applications you can choose during the installation it comes with a decent selection installed out of the box. This includes applications such as ;
- Brave Web Browser
Everything performed as you would expect and I didn’t experience any slow or buggy performance during my time with it. It’s an attractive distribution much like I found with their XFCE version and they also offer other desktops and window managers like GNOME, Bspwm and Hlwm. All of which look very aesthetically pleasing from the screenshots I’ve seen of them and I’ll be checking them out soon. My only real complaint with this distribution is the amount of applications that perform the same function installed out of the box that could do with trimming down.
