Ubuntu Cinnamon Remix | The Perfect Alternative To Linux Mint

For those Linux Mint users out there that relied on using snap packages Ubuntu Cinnamon Remix might be the perfect alternative you’re looking for. Although I’m not the biggest advocate for snapd I can understand a lot of you out there use it and enjoy it’s benefits. As the name would suggest Ubuntu Cinnamon Remix uses Ubuntu at it’s base. A fresh install includes the GNOME software store as well as the plug-in for snapd to allow you to search for and install snaps within the application.

Ubuntu Cinnamon Remix also features a rather handy desktop layout switcher. The layout switcher allows you to easily select a new desktop layout that mimics the look and feel of other popular desktops. My favourite of the included layouts is without a doubt the Unity layout.

The version of Ubuntu Cinnamon Remix featured in this video is the latest unstable build of 20.10 Groovy Gorilla. So there will be certain things in this version that aren’t quite ready for the stable release which should be around October 2020. If you would like to download the current LTS release of Ubuntu Cinnamon which is based on Ubuntu 20.04 click here.

I liked the Unity layout, also liked the Cupertino layout but I just wish it had a global menu. Sometimes that’s what makes the difference for me.
