Deepin 20.5 | The Most Feature Rich Distribution

The beautiful Debian based distribution Deepin is back with a new update! Now on version 20.5 it’s bringing with it some new and interesting features to the Linux Desktop. I went ahead and installed it on a couple of my machines to see how the new version stacks up.

Some of the new features in this release include;

Facial Recognition:

In Deepin 20.5 you will be able to use your camera/webcam attached to your computer to enable Face ID. The setup process is super simple! All you need to do is go into the Control Centre and add your face as a authentication method.

Mail App:

Deepin builds upon their default mail client and adds some new features to make it more reliable in 20.5. One of the new features to will be the ability to retrieve new emails after a dropped connection so you don’t need to worry about missing important messages.

Grand Search:

Deepin included an application launcher much like Spotlight over on MacOS. You can use Grand Search to launch applications, files and perform web searches. New in Deepin 20.5 is the ability to use file extensions as keywords to perform searches.

Pin Screenshots:

Deepin has long had one of the most capable screenshot tools on the Linux desktop. Now it also has the ability to pin a screenshot to your desktop and open other applications while its pinned.

App Store:

Deepin’s app store has also received some improvements in this release. You can now very easily report feedback by clicking a bottom on the applications page in the store in the page. The App store now also works with touchscreen gestures for easier navigation on touch screen devices.
